Severe Midwest Weather Threat Moves “Don Smith Classic” to Sunday, May 4th
(Terre Haute) Out of concern for the safety and well being of race fans and race teams that will travel to Terre Haute for the 2008 Action Track season opener DHK Promotions has decided to move the Clabber Girl Don Smith Classic presented by ISU from it’s scheduled Friday night date to the scheduled rain date of this Sunday, May 4th.
“It’s one thing when you have a slight threat of rain or a scattered thunderstorm, but WTHI-TV Meteorologist David Wire and the National Weather Service both say the same thing...that it could be a very dangerous afternoon and evening in the Wabash Valley,”said DHK Promotions President Mike King. “We have more than 40 Midwest Sprint Car Series teams that will be pulling race trailers to Terre Haute, along with thousands of fans set to attend that could be put in harms way by the weather. That’s a risk we cannot afford to take, so we’ve opted to make the call early to keep everyone safe”
Two rounds of serious weather are being predicted for the Midwest, the first scheduled tohit by early afternoon and the second in the evening. “Don’t get me wrong,” said King. “We want to race Friday night, but DHK Promotions needs to be smart about what appears to be an imminent weather situation. The good news is that we have a rain date in place (Sunday) and the forecast is looking great, sowe just wait an extra 40 hours.”
