Bryant Heating and Cooling Indianapolis Speedrome®
Indianapolis, Indiana
July 27, 2011

For the first-time in the 70-year history of the Bryant Heating and Cooling Indianapolis Speedrome®, the world famous Indianapolis Gordon Pipers will perform here this Friday July 29th. This iconic entertainment group will first have a presentation at 6:30pm just before racing begins. They will also play in salute of the starting lineup for that evening’s Pure Power Technologies & UAW 100 Mel Kenyon Classic for the USAC Mopar National Midget Series. For the first-time in over 6 years, the best and brightest open wheel stars from around the country will compete on the famous fifth-mile. And the Speedrome is proud to have them back! The entry list already reads like a who’s who of great drivers. Racing starts at 7pm.

The Indianapolis 500 Gordon Pipers have been a fixture and an enduring tradition at the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race and events throughout the Midwest since 1962. The band is a diverse group of individuals brought together for a common cause, to promote and share with the public the heritage of Scottish/Celtic culture and music. With the primary emphasis being the performance of bagpipe and drum music, their intent is to educate, entertain and enlighten those who see them perform. Through instruction and fellowship, they help others further their understanding and appreciation of the Scottish/Celtic culture. The Speedrome is excited about having them with us this Friday. The group has a great history. To learn more about them, check out their web site http://www.500gordonpipers.com/.

This will be the 43rd United States Auto Club National Midget appearance at the Speedrome dating back to the inaugural on August 3, 1958. Over those years, USAC has sanctioned nearly 500 events at the Speedrome which is far and away the most for any track in the world. USAC has reigned over D1 (formally Regional) Midgets, Kenyon Midgets, Ford Focus Midgets, Focus Young Guns, .25 Midgets, Modifieds, and even a single stockcar event at this remarkable facility. But sticking out like a jewel in a crown is the events ran under the USAC Mopar National Midget Series banner. It has been a treasure chest of history.

The most recent feature was contested May 26, 2005 with Teddy Beach taking top honors in the 100-lapper. There have been so many great names landing in victory lane. Leading the victory category is the coast-to-coast star Sleepy Tripp. The California transplant captured 8 checkered flags including going 4-for-5 in 1980. Rich Vogler has 6 National wins here, 2nd on the all-time list, during a period from 1975 to 1989. Other notable USAC Mopar National event winner’s include Mel Kenyon, Jeff Nuckles, Steve Lotshaw, Lonnie Caruthers, Mack McClellan, Tom Bigelow, Russ Gamester, and Billy Wease.

Tickets are on sale now for this tremendous event. Adult general admission tickets are just $15 with children ages 6-11 just $6 while kids 5 & under are free. You can charge by phone at (317) 353-8206 or stop in the Speedrome pit office on the night of any racing event. This ticket price is the best price in the country to see these USAC Mopar National Midget series speedsters in action.
