To set the record straight, I talked to a top USAC official about the switch to a day race and was told that it wasn't a switch and it was always intended to be a day race. It was simply mislabeled on the schedule. The reason given was that they thought it was a neat idea to give fans one traditional style day race per year at the Action Track, sort of like day baseball at Wrigley Field. He assured me that the track prep will be good and they are going to re-water the cushion and NOT pack it with heavy trucks like they do on the miles. This official has been a straight shooter with me in the past so I have no reason to doubt him now. As long as the last remnants of the Gerry Olsen dirt have been removed I think the track will be good and I've seen the cushion hold up well there at previous day shows. I just hope they are a little late starting on account of the Eastern time and my 4 and 1/2 hour drive there. Then it's on to Kokomo! That's the advantage of day races. You can double dip.

I remember Terre Haute before the lights were added and I saw some of the best races I had ever seen anywhere in the 60's, 70's, 80's and early 90's. People need to give it a chance before all of the complaining starts. It will give people a chance to go there and hit Kokomo that evening. One of the best ever was the last 10 laps of a USAC sprint feature with Sheldon Kinser and Gary Bettenhausen in the mid 70's. Sheldon on the cushion inches away fron the fence and Gary on the low side. If memory serves me correctly Bettenhausen won...help me out Marv...you were probably there too.

I guess USAC is depending on word of mouth advertising. I have Brazil cable and only watch one local station (WTHI, personal preference), and listen to my iPod in my Jeep. Have yet to hear anything about the race.........

I'm looking forward to it. I'll also be able to get home at a decent time. A hundred laps will make for a dusty track at the end, but it's a dirt track. Hope to see some of you there.

For those about to rock, we salute you.

Wrong.....Radio is owned by Emmis, tv is owned by LIN TV. Two separate companies. Won't be easily confused by next year, two new buildings and radio and tv won't be in the same building. Emmis sold us a good five years ago (and 17,000 camera clicks ago).

Wish I could be there. Sadly, I get to drive a UHaul truck from St Paul to Philadelphia to assist my youngest son move. Well at least he got a job!
