Seems the folks at Battleground Speedway may consider running a "Calcutta Auction" as a way to raise money and interest for racing. Sounds like pari mutuel betting to me. Stay tuned. . . . .

They did that at the Hulman Classic 40 years ago. It developed a lot of local interest, but 40 years ago the race was on Wide World of Sports so there was already a lot of interest nationally. The tv show was split between the Hulman Classic and the Kentucky Derby and it also was opening day at Indy. The first Saturday in May was a really big deal then.
It will be interesting to see how they handle it with the gambling laws in Texas. Keep us posted.
