What do you guys think of this idea? I really can't see anyone winning it. I think there will be a few who attempt it, but does that mean they will be accepted, exciting or have a chance of winning?

I want to see exactly what constitutes an outsider, i.e. whom is eligible and who isn't.

Brian Tyler has IndyCar experience. I'd love to see him in a good car for this.

interesting! can tony stewart still fit in one of those things? only 2 or 3
teams have a chance so they would have to field extra cars for somebody who probably bring a lot of money along. so you might get to see a few extra brazilians! they must grow money on trees down there.

I'm also interested in what an "outsider" is too. Is Hornish eligible since he hasn't run IndyCar the last couple of years? Montoya? I'd hardly call them "outsiders" just because they haven't run them in the last few years. I need more details before I really have an opinion on it. I don't see anybody having a chance at it regardless. If they are going to throw it out there, I hope it truely does give different drivers a shot at a race. Could be interesting if done right. Randy thinking outside the box again.....what the hell, let's try it.

it says outside of the series so i'm guessing it means anyone who hasnt run in the series by mid-summer when they select the 5 lucky contestants.

I wonder if Firestone Indy Lights drivers would be classified as "outsiders"?

I like the idea, and I think it might be aimed at NASCAR as much as anybody. As Robin Miller has said several times if they (IndyCar) can entice some of the more popular NASCAR guys to run an IndyCar race it would send interest through the roof. I think he may have been more specific to Indianapolis but a deal like this would work just fine, too. The down side would be if one of the stock car guys actually won it.

Of any of the guys in NASCAR who can even win their races, I would say they don't really need the money. I am sure they could use it, and would take it if they won. I get the feeling it is aimed at Kyle Busch. I don't see Robby Gordon creating any interest from fans. Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson have no interest in racing anything besides them cars. Stewart would know how hard it is better then anyone else. Montoya seems to have too many kids to race anything but Cup.

USAC is basically an Indiana series with some random events from other states sprinkled in, so I can't see Penske or someone giving anyone a chance. If it's anyone I would expect to see a young guy like Cody Darrah or Clauson. When Swindell and Kinser are winning the Outlaws season openers well into their fifties, it doesn't look good for the younger guys (everyone else who runs WoO).

Canadian Big Block Modified star Stewart Friesen just finished wrapping up a couple victories in Florida. He drove a ASCS 360 last season a couple times and won on I think his second time out. He likes to race a wide variety of cars and seems to either win or wreck. Nobody outside of the New York area knows who he is. Those Modified guys do race probably 3 sometimes 4 nights a week in the middle of summer.

Bobby Santos is another diversified racer who seems to adapt well to different cars.

With the exception of NASCAR everyone I mentioned is a regional star. With a new car coming to Indycar, all of those old ones need to be used up, what better way to do it then with inexperienced racers.
