News came out this afternoon that Best in the West Racing, the promoters of the Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino the past two years, will not be running the track in 2011. Orange Show, a paved quarter mile about one hour east of Los Angeles, staged its first race on May 1, 1947 (as a dirt track) and has had racing continuosly every year since. However, the track has struggled the last decade and has been through several promoters. Hopefully a new promoter will be found to keep the oldest racetrack in Southern California in operation.

It would be one heckuva' dirt track for midgets. By the time I moved out here from Michigan in the mid 1970s, the track had already been paved for quite some time. However, in the late 1970s I was working for the USRC Midgets as a photographer and Orange Show was the club's home track. Back in those days there was always a semi and a full main event field and the Midgets put on a fantastic show there. Now days, with the USAC Western Midgets drawing few cars (expecially on pavement), the show would not be as good. But, if they could bring a full field of cars it would probably be even better. And, then again, if like you guys said put dirt on it, it would be out and out sensational.

Saw the super modifieds and winged sprints (combined) there one time and it was a pretty poor show. Track was just to small for them.
