"DuQuoin entry list swells to forty-four"


Millstadt, IL. Nov 23 --- A dozen additional entries received last week pushes the pre-entry total to forty-four competitors for the upcoming Dec. 18 inaugural "Battle at the Center", on the Mini Magic Mile inside the Southern Illinois Center. The invitational event will be sanctioned by the POWRi SPEEDWAY Motors National Midget Series.

Loyet Motorsports filed three entries for the event, for reigning 2010 POWRi Midget Championship Brad Loyet, 2008 Chili Bowl winner Damion Gardner and Casey Shuman. Shuman captured the most recent DuQuoin event in March 2010. Recently crowned USAC National Midget Champion Bryan Clauson winner of six POWRi events during the 2010 season has also entered the event.

Additional drivers entering the $5,000-to-win event include: Bobby East, Shane Cottle, Matt Sherrill, Tony Roney, Levi Roberts, John Campbell, Tyler Courtney and 2010 USAC Midwest Ford Focus Midget Pavement Championship Jake Blackhurst.

The one-day event will feature midget racing only, and is being taped by NeWave Productions for delayed broadcast on SPEED Channel's LUCAS Oil on the Edge. Tickets are for the event are selling at a brisk pace and with limited seating available, a sell-out before race day is expected. To purchase advance tickets for The Battle at the Center; the ticket order form can be found under the DOWNLOADS link located at the top of POWRi web site www.powri.com.

We got our tickets in the mail, today. This ought to be an excellent show. Just hope the weather co-operates.

Anticipating this event -- it has been way too long since I went to a race.

You are correct. I believe it was 2 years ago that the weather was extremely cold outside. Everytime they opened the building to let cars in and out it was a blast of cold air. Still better than no racing at all until April. Thanks to PowrI for scheduling this event.

How does Duquoin compair to the chilli bowl track? Size, banking, pits?

It was 17 degrees outside for the first Du Quoin show in January of '05--and not significantly warmer than that inside.

Been there six times now since the second race in 05. It's about half the size of the Bowl and very flat but they can still get around there pretty good and pass. Seen several photo finishes there now. The pit space is very limited inside. There's room behind the front stretch and there's a barn or two behind the building but some of them might have to pit completely outside. Hopefully the weather won't be too bad. Been there once when there was snow on the ground.
