I know we all have got the unofficial news but it will be official soon. The big announcement will be at a noon press conference on Friday 2-22-2008 of the merger, the wait is over. IRL and Champ Car will be one series.

Doesn't sound like it to me.
Written by: Robin Miller 02/22/2008 - 09:35 AM Indianapolis, Ind. The press conference originally scheduled for Friday at IMS has been canceled. The official unification announcement of open wheel racing will not be Friday and might not happen until Monday. Following six hours of meetings and dinner Thursday between Tony George and Kevin Kalkhoven at the downtown Hyatt Hotel, word came down there would be no press conference at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday morning. It had tentatively been set for 11:45 a.m. |

Whats to get done? I have no idea why Tony's even talking with them. It should be POOF. WE WIN! Your welcome to join us with no say in the operations whatsoever.

Chuck, I'm not sure but that attitude may have something to do with why things are today. TG has more to gain by making this look like a merger and bringing teams and expertise over from champ car, oh and fans too. POOF would be teams folding all together fans giving up and leaving the drivers finding rides in countries where they are from.........hmmmmm maybe poof could work.

Not sure I'd make plans for ANY day in the next few days at noon. That was some major misinformation.
Champ Car leader leaves Indy without deal By Curt Cavin curt.cavin@indystar.com Champ Car World Series co-owner Kevin Kalkhoven left Indianapolis shortly before noon today after failing to strike a deal with Indy Racing League president Tony George to unify open-wheel racing in the U.S. Kalkhoven could not be reached for comment, and George admitted to being "anxious" that details are still not resolved after a lengthy dinner meeting Thursday night at a downtown restaurant. "We're still not where we need to be, and the more time passes the more challenging it becomes," he said. George said the leaders of the two Indianapolis-based sanctioning bodies would continue working on the project, but he couldn't predict when it might come to a conclusion. "We're still working just because he's not here," George said. The IRL postponed a news conference today because George said there was no need to have one without all the details resolved. "We want to have as positive of a press conference as we can have when we do have one," he said. This story will be updated. |

This gets more complicated as the clock keeps ticking. The IRL season opens in about 5 weeks the CCWS owners and drivers have been told to stop working on their current cars. If this doesn't get done soon, then what happens? It sounds like CCWS can't finish the season, maybe not even start it. It looks to me that CCWS either joins together with the IRL or they go bankrupt. Who is dragging their feet in all of this?
