Just got off the phone with Track Enterprises. Coolers ARE allowed for this Saturdays USAC Sprint Car Race. Didn't matter one way or another to me. I just checked for the benefit of the people asking. I never have let a no cooler policy keep me from going to the races...
It is against excise laws to carry in alcohol to any establishment that sells alcohol. Not one single bar in the state will let you BYOB because that is their primary purpose of business; to sell liquor, beer, wine or whatever beverages they serve. Sprint car race tracks primary business is not to sell beer. That is just another way the race track can make money. With that being said any track that does allow beer to be carried in is somewhat taking away from their potential profits. In today's economy the race track needs all the profits it can get as it is sometimes hard to make ends meet. This argument can go either way but as far as the law is concerned beer is not permitted to be brought in. But could you imagine if they tried to stop all of the beer drinkers bringing in their coolers to Indy for the 500. Not going to happen. Some people, maybe not die hard sprint car fans but some people may choose not to go to a racetrack if they cannot carry in their own beer. So the promoter must make the decision on how they want to run their track and whether or not they want the beer to be carried in. However, most all beer drinking race fans have their cooler in their car even if they can not bring it into the racetrack.
