Heat 3: Thomas Jr., Stockton, Short, Hendrick, and Perry transfer. Gross was 6th.

Also, Blake Fitzpatrick had engine problems and DNS heat 2.

Man, What a run for Fitz!!!!.........He needed another yellow!!

It was a bad night for Bland. I think he had his second flat tire of the night after that big pile up in the B. Stockon looked really good while he was leading the first 1/2 of the race. I think it is about time for him to pick up a win at TSS. It was a good night of racing and if I remember correctly the 40 lap sprint car A was over by 10.

Sometimes when a driver dominates a feature it affords you the opportunity to tune them out a bit and concentrate on other areas of combat, that are occurring in the race. Tonight was not one of those cases, because of the perfect masterpiece that the country's best traditional dirt sprint driver was turning in. First of all, in order to reach the early race leader from his 6th starting position, he was reelin' em in and making easy work of each Top 5 position holder by diving for the tires in between 3 and 4 and getting unbelievable bite exiting 4, driving by every one of them, with ease. Then, following the race's only yellow he was positioned behind young Mr. Stockon, who had driven a hell of a race and up until that point was the race's only leader. But, as they were under caution, as much as Chase deserved to win this one because of his courageous performance, you had to look at this leader much in the same way that you would a young wildebeest on the Discovery Channel, while in the sites of an experienced lion. The lead was in serious jeopardy and everybody knew it. It was that inevitable. And like a true apex predator, when the green flew Stanbrough didn't jump prematurely and do anything rash. He stalked for a few laps, waited for his prey to make his mistake and seized the lead, with a clean, decisive pass. And was gone like the wind. But that wasn't the end of this virtuoso performance. The grande finale was the way he carved up the lapped traffic, in route to the checker. He was in complete control of the Foxco sprinter, making it go where ever he wanted it to go. And do what ever he wanted it to do. Going under some back markers. Around others. And barely slowing his pace, in doing so. I've been fortunate enough to have been around long enough, in the right part of the racing World to have seen many of the all-time greats, who are now enshrined in the hall of fame. I'm telling you, this guy is as good as any of the ones I've seen.

Not to be lost in what Jon did to the rest of the field is something that was almost as inevitable to every one in attendance tonight. Blake Fitzpatrick had a terrible overall night, up until it was time for the feature. The engine was obviously sick. So much so that he couldn't even make it out to run a heat or participate in the B-Main. They announced he was taking a provisional. When they rolled him out for the feature and you heard the motor fire and roar, without the terrible sputtering, everybody just knew "This is going to be good!" And that it was, as he began tearing through the field, from the drop of the green. Twenty first to fourth!! And with another yellow, he may have well ended up second. It was a great run to watch. I think the Sprint Week win has added the extra confidence that this young driver needed and you're going to see him consistently at a higher level, from this point on. Look out!

Another gem buried in all this chaos, was the free for all in deciding the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth place. Brady, Hunter, Chase S., Russ and eventually Blake just went at it for the duration of this thing. Great race. Great track, from green to checker, thanks to Tommy, Blake and their crew. I love this place and have since I was a kid.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that's probably the first time the word wildebeest has ever been used on IOW. :2: Also, probably the only time a lot some racers and/or fans have ever watched Discovery is for Heartland Challenge. (Lord knows it's a lot easier to find the wildebeest; at least he's shown before 1:00 am.)

Blake got the yellow he REALLY needed when Mark Perry slowed out of turn 4 to bring out the caution about 10 laps into the race. Blake was just about to go a lap down when that happened.

Not only did that yellow save his race, it could wind up saving his season if he wins the MSCS points title. Fitzpatrick would up finishing a spot ahead of Stockton, and a couple of positions ahead of Hendrick. That could be huge come the end of the season.
