Westfall, Hicks, Kimes and Sherman pick up wins on “Chase for the Case” Night at Waynesfield

May 22, 2010
Waynesfield, OH

Mother Nature smiled down on Waynesfield Raceway Park on Saturday night as the crowd got to enjoy “Chase For the Case” night featuring the Lee's Hydraulics Non Wing Sprints, Post Agri-Service UMP Modifieds, Miracle Motorsports Tuff Trucks, and JR and Sons Service Center Compacts. The track was fast and the racing was exciting all night long.

Some of the fine employees from Proctor and Gamble in Lima, Ohio were on hand to raffle off some wonderful items to help raise funds for their team in this years American Cancer Society Relay for Life. It was great to see P&G well represented and we look forward to having them back soon!

Miracle Motorsports Tuff Truck driver “The Juggernaut” Chris Hicks wasted no time in jumping to the front in the 20 lap A Main, the driver of the #71 Snake Thunder Engines Tuff Truck set sail from his starting spot inside row number 2 and never looked back. If he would have, he would have see some of the best racing so far in 2010, with several trucks battling 2 and 3 wide all throughout the field. The battle for the runner-up spot heated up with 5 to go as the #1x of Jerry Butler, #33 of “The Enforcer” Mike Hicks, and #26 Jessica Nuss all swapped spots repeatedly for several laps until “The Enforcer” was able to get away and try to chase down his brother Chris. In the end, it was Chris Hicks picking up the feature win. Mike Hicks coming home second, Jerry Butler third, Jessica Nuss, and #MT1 Bill Keeler fifth. Heat Races were won by #1w Matt Twining, #25g Gabe Twining, and #33 Mike Hicks. Chris picked up a $50 bonus in Chase for the Case, leaving $100 and $1 behind in the other 2 cases. Special Recognition to #3 Bill Gross making his return to Tuff Truck action after a severe health scare over the off season. WELCOME BACK BILL!

In Lee's Hydraulic Non Wing Sprint Action, it was #54 Matt Westfall getting a great start and getting out front, but #57 Thomas Messeraul charging by and leading for several laps until briefly being held up by a lapped car, and that was all the opening that Westfall needed, as the Ludlow Falls, Ohio driver made his way through traffic with relative ease until a caution for #37k Kyle Conaway and #24 Landon Simon crash lined the field back up with just a few laps remaining. On the final restart, Westfall was able to get a great start and pull out to a sizable lead. T-Mez closed in to with in 2 car lengths on the final lap but that was as close as he'd come as Westfall nabbed the checkers aboard his E&E Machine and Tool, Bordner Welding #54, Messeraul was second, #34 Luke Hall third, #41 Steve Ott fourth, and #17r Kyle Robbins fifth. Westfall grabbed a $100 bill in Chase for the Case leaving $200 and $1 in the other 2 cases. Heat Races were won by #57 Thomas Messeraul, #8 Mike Brecht, and #54 Matt Westfall. B Main was won by #35 Stuart Brubaker.

In JR and Sons Service Center Compact racing, It was #82 Harvey Yoder aboard the Wyss Farms entry jumping out to an early race lead, but “The Jet” Jeff Kimes in the Rush Creek Gardens # 31 and Justin Durflinger in the “Black and Blue Bullet” doing battle side by side and heading for the front. In the end Kimes proved that he likes it wet, as the moist, tacky racing surface allowed him to power away for the win, Durflinger came home second, #7Ethan Pope third, Harvey Yoder fourth, and Brian Beach finishing fifth in the #71. Kimes, no stranger to Chase for the Case, picked up a $25 bonus, leaving the $50 and $1 cases. Heat Races were won by #19 Jordan Iiams, and #31 Jeff Kimes.

#L5 Casey Luedeke made his first visit in 2010 to Waynesfield Raceway Park Saturday night in the Post Agri-Service UMP Modifieds and proved his mettle, taking off to the early lead in his Sherman Enterprises chassis, but it was that man who builds those chassis, #65 Todd Sherman, from Chorobusco, IN powering his way passed Luedeke and setting sail and picking up the feature win. The battle for the third spot was intense between #45p Brian Post, #35 Tim Cornett, #22b Andy Bibler, and #5x Shawn Bayliff. In the end Andy Bibler was able to muscle by Shawn Bayliff and Cornett. Todd Sherman picked the case with $50 in victory lane, leaving $100 and $1 behind. Heat races were won by #93 Josh Greber, #ZERO Brent Hole, #5x Shawn Bayliff, and #35 Tim Cornett. Special Recognition to Matt Twining, getting behind the wheel of Jerry Butler's #1x to turn his first laps in UMP Modified competition, as well as #5s Tom “The Punkin” Stauffer making his debut in the Post Agri-Service UMP Modifieds. Great job last night Matt and Tom staying out of trouble and logging laps. Look forward to seeing you guys getting more experience.
