Matt Hamilton entered last weekend with a 1 point lead over David Mcwilliams in the Cincinnati Modified Championship. Mcwilliams would grab a 5 point lead after Friday's race at Moler Raceway Park. Saturday would see Mcwilliams struggle as Hamilton and his "Hamilton Mafia" team would jump back on top of the point standings with another consistent finish. When the dust cleared on the weekend Matt Hamilton would be on top by 12 points.
May 7th, Moler Raceway Park:
The Dynamic duo at the top of the points would roll into Moler on Friday Night. In 7 races this year Hamilton had already found victory lane twice. On this night all he could muster was a 6th place finish. At the front of the field Racin Dave Mcwilliams would hold off last weeks Modified winner at Moler, Devin Gilpin. Gilpin, last years U.M.P. National points runner-up would throw all he had at Mcwilliams but nothing would work. Late Model hot-shoe Greg Johnson would come home third in his third C.M.C. appearance of the year. He will definitely be a driver to reckon with if he competes in 15 C.M.C. races as this marked his worst finish to date.
May 8th
Florence Speedway:
The point leaders both elected to give Florence speedway a go on this night. Hamilton captured the point lead as Mcwilliams night will most likely be a toss out when he reaches the 15 race mark. In front of Hamilton Rick Corbin continued his quality over quanity approach as he scored his 4th win in only 6 races in the C.M.C.. Ray Bransum And Pete Holt also finished ahead of Hamilton as they both scored their best finishes of the year.
Lawrenceburg Speedway
Many of the drivers running Lawrenceburg on a regular basis don't have as many races under their belt this season as current C.M.C. point leaders. A quick glance at the points can be deceiving, a closer look reveals that by the end of the year the Burg regulars will be right at the top battling it out. Joey Kramer proved that point Saturday night as he has his new car orbiting the 3/8ths mile speedplant in normal "Rocketman" form. Sprint car standout Brady Short would come home second as Kramer picked up his second win of the season. Brad Wieck another driver that will most likely be near the top when the championship is being decided late in the year, followed up his Lawrenceburg win earlier in the year with a 3rd place finish.
This week all 3 tracks are back in action as Moler has an Armed forces night. Anyone showing a Millitary I.D. gets in free. Lawrenceburg is hosting youth baseball night on Saturday as any players in uniform get in free. Also on Saturday the modifieds will be in action at Florence Speedway as they host Armed forces, Police and E.M.S.. Any of these with proper I.D. get a free general admission. Come out and see the cars and stars of the Cincinnati Modified Championship doing battle.
