Did you get one of the 3 wide at the finish ? I heard it was an incredible show down there. Nice shot too.

No, I had the wrong angle. I did have the group entering turn 1, but a clueless guy with a camera walked right into my shot. Considering there were only a couple of us there, I was more that just a little upset. . . .

But the racing was OUTSTANDING. Many new non wing fans in Houston now. Comparisons to winged shows were made, with the obvious comments.

Nice shot. I had one of those at Toledo a few weeks ago, just stood there and held a heavy camera all day. I feel for you, but remember most of us just watched rain on Saturday...

I guess this show was a little closer then a trip to Indy?

I think that the HRP event was one of few (maybe the only) non wing event that didn't rain out. AND HRP is my "regular" track. They don't run a weekly program anymore, but I am on their permanent list for all the special shows that they run on the dirt track. I still haven't wandered over to that straight stretch of asphalt yet.

And, yeah, it was great seeing these cars locally. Better still was to have folks in the stands who have not seen these cars before get their exposure. I can tell you that there are a couple of thousand more non wing fans in the US today.

Carey,

Did you get any news on the guy over at the Drag Strip that took that ride Saturday afternoon? We were parked over there right near where it happened, probably the closest to it, and it sounded and looked pretty bad. I know he went over a couple of times. We started keeping a closer eye on the strip after that, just in case something else happened. It was good to see the safety crew rolling toward the scene even before the car came to rest.

Here is what the drag strip announcer posted over at www.houstonarearacing.com

"It was nice to see Dewayne in the tower yesterday when they came out to the track. He still could not remember how anything happened but was very alert and will be sore for awhile. It's unfortunate that things like that even happen but with high powered Motorsports and excessive speeds that chance is allways in the cellar waiting to happen and will allways be that way. Just thank our God above that things turned out better than worse and that Dewayne will race another day. Glad your OK son!"

I can say that pitting at the back of the dirt track pit area can be interesting when the drag strip is running. Thanks for coming out and putting on a show for the fans. It was an incredible night.

Glad to hear he's OK - It sounded like it was "teeth, hair and eyes all over the place" when he crashed.
