The US 4-man bobsled team just won the olympic gold medal for the first time in 60-odd years, driving a Bo-Dyne sled. This sled was developed by a team headed by Geoff Bodine, who most of you probably remember as a Winston Cup driver, but who is remembered by us New Englanders as one of the best open wheeled modified drivers of all time. Not only was he a good driver, he was a fine, innovative mechanic, who built many of the cars in which he won.
I remember when the first articles appeared, 10 or 15 years ago, when he learned that the US Bobsled Team was trying to compete in sleds that were way behind the technology. He thought he could apply some of the stuff he learned running modifieds to improve them. He raised the money, put together a team, and has now succeeded. I think it's a great day for short track racers. |

Great job by the US team in their sled "Night Train". Interesting story about the driver going blind two years ago and after surgery he was seeing too well so he scratches up his visor so that he has to drive more by feel. Congratulatiions to the team and the Geoff Bodine team's effort as well.

Congratulations Team USA on winning the Gold Medal. Steve Holcomb should be very proud of his accomplishments. As Vern mentioned Steve's story couldn't help but touch all of those watching.
Dick, my passion for following the USA bobsled team happended years before Geoff Bodine's involvement, the telephone company I worked for was a major sponsor of the bobsled team. Geoff Bodine was a household name at our home, he shared hero status in my daughters eyes with Bentley Warren. For so many young kids their heroes are someone they never met, Steph had not only met both of her heroes she got to see both of them race at numerous venues around the country for years. Geoff brought so much to the bobsled team when he joined. He should also be proud of the part he played in building the bobsled team to where they are today. Once again congratulations to all involved with winning the Gold Medal, team members, their famalies for their support and dedication, coaches and their families and of course Geoff Bodine for his years of support and dedication. Job Well Done Team USA! Patti |
