Received word Friday that one of my long time racing pals has died. Many, perhaps most of you probably didn't know Bill by name, but if you attended USAC races in the 50's, 60, 70's and/or 80's, it's likely that you at some point noticed Bill and Eloise, his love of 71 years, in attendance. Later, when he thought best not to drive after dark, Bill and Eloise, who didn't drive, limited their racing to tracks in close proximity to their central Ohio home. Bill always kept meticulous notes and recorded results, a practice I chose to follow for several years. Sometime around the turn of the century they moved to Delaware to live with their daughter. Bill was not completely happy there but understood the need to be near caregivers.
Some of the totally neatest by-products of my 50 years of race chasing are the friendships I have developed. Conversely, the very worst thing is losing those friends......inevitable, I suppose, but it hurts....... ![]() R.I.P. Bill |

I don't remember the name but I am sure I probably ran across him at a race sometime in the past 50 years.R.I.P. Bill.
