getting into Kenyon Midgets

Hey guys. I am looking to get into Kenyon Midgets. Are there any guys that rent cars? I would just be looking to do maybe 3 or 4 races this year. I am a Road Racer and just looking to do something a little different. Let me know if anyone knows of anything.

Vince, save your money and buy a nice sprinter that is a few years old for pennies on the $$$$. they're everywhere. I'm serious. For example, there is a guy here in Cincinnati (J.D. Turner) that has a real nice coil-over roller for $3500. He was always competitive in it and it's straight.

ps...NO! I'm not related to him!!! Just a nice guy with a good car for sale (if it hasn't been sold)

Sure the car is cheap, but how are you gonna make it run cheap? Engines aren't pennies on the dollar.

Vincent, I know a guy who rents them or at least he used to PM me and I'll give you his info...:thumb:

You'll tie up as much in a Kenyon as you will in a used sprinter. Renting will give you a couple of races and then it's over. how long can a guy afford to rent a ride? how many have started out renting a ride in Kenyon's and parlayed that into a full-time decent ride in anything? Vince, take my advice. save your money, buy a used sprinter, an open trailer and go racing. it'll be yours. when you have the money, go racing with it. when you're strapped? leave it home until you can afford to go to the track the next time. BTW, buy a new $35K Gaerte and run it for 3 seasons and then see if you can get more than $10k-$15k for it. Decent 410's are out there in abundance for between $7k-$10k. renting is throwing your money away. when you're rental funds are dried up you'll have nothing to show for it unless, you only want to do a couple or a few shows and then walk away from it permanently.

Bryan Clauson? perhaps he rented it for free but he was in a car that belonged to the Armstrongs. He has a pretty good ride nowadays.

Chris Windom? I think he rented from the Kenyons. 3 wins this year, pretty nice ride in the USAC sprints and midgets.

There are 5 or 6 years prior that I don't know about.

I have plenty of money wraped up in my Road racing equiptment. Like I said before I just want to do a few races. Im not trying to be the next big thing in the sport. Just want to do some races in the the sport I have watched my whole life. Living in Indiana how can you help it? haha Keep the ideas coming guys! Thanks

Why not a 600? more races less expensive (all in what you do) and you will have a blast.

If you just want to run two or three times to find out what it is like, renting is a better way to go, IMHO. You don't have all of that money tied up in equipment, etc. and then have to wait for someone to decide to buy it if you want to do something else. If you are serious about going sprint or midget racing, it might not be such a good idea.

Go to Kenyoncar.com, the website for the Kenyons. The phone number is listed there. Ask to speak to Don. He's probably a better source than anyone else on if there are rentals available. Often, there are people willing to rent a car for two or three races in hopes the rentor will become the owner.

There are several good used cars for sale now, my suggestion would be to find out how many are still available right before the season starts and approach one of them if they would want to rent it for a few races.
