Now before everyone points out what we have done wrong let me tell you we have given our all to the speedway. I believe the economy has caused low car and spectator counts this season.

Regardless of the reason(s) that led to this decision, it is a sad situation any time a track closes. Hopefully someone will purchase this track and reopen it and the public and racers will support it. Too many tracks have closed in the last two years across the US and unfortunately, I don't believe the end is in sight.

Too bad. I have come to grow attached to the place, dust aside. This year's Sprint Week event has to be some of the best racing I have ever seen. Even last year's show was good, if you could see it.

Doesn't Kamp have dirt laid over pavement?

The dirt has a high sand or dust content, I'd imagine you find some good clay for the place, Most people would return. I think they did a pretty good job. Last years sprintweek kinda looked like sidney austrialia does today though. COuldn't see a damn thing (Note, Not this years) But it was still dusty.

Chuck, my question was - wasn't Kamp a paved track several years ago and then they put dirt over the pavement and made it a dirt track? Is there a paved track still under the dirt?

I heard the rumor that it was dirt over pavement. I did a little research. It was originally built as a dirt track, but was paved for awhile during the 70s. Now, according to what I found, the pavement was torn up and the track returned to dirt. It can be difficult determining authenticity, though, when your sources are on the internet.

On a side note, Casey Shuman told me that his uncle won a midget show, on dirt, back in the 70's, and I found that to be true, in a Gamester car back in 73.
