Winchester Speedway web site says, The HOSS Outlaw Winged Sprints will replace the USAC Midgets at the Winchester Speedway Oct. 3rd.

Chris,....Can you really blame them? After 10 midgets showed at Salem. I looked at the USAC midget schedule on their website and wasn't there a race or 2 scheduled in Louisiana in late October? Noticed they are not on the schedule anymore.

Maybe in USAC's hast to screw Emmit Hahn's 10,000 to win Lakeside show, by scheduling the 10,000 to win Lawrenceburg show and flying some in to keep them from Lakeside, this might have been in the original deal between USAC and Lawrenceburg. And if it wasn't in the original deal, it should have been.

USAC reminds me of a couple supervisor's I've had, They'll stab you in the back with one hand and jerk ya off with the other....

Can't place the blame on Winchester, their choice was/is obvious, bring in a series that will MAYBE bring 10 cars and a small crowd or bring in a series that should bring at least 20 cars plus a pretty good sized crowd. At this point unless USAC and the owners of midgets wake up and make some sensible decisions regarding costs and so on midgets are pretty much history in this area......

from Winchester's website:

Saturday October 3rd
"Old Timers Weekend" HOSS Sprint Cars
USAC Sprint New Star Feature - CRA Street Stock 40 - & Late Model 40
Old Timers Car Display Saturday & Sunday

Sunday October 4th
"Old Timers Weekend" USAC National Sprint Car 40
CRA LM Sportsman 40 - CRA Compact 20

Does anyone know what the "new star features" are?

I went to a HOSS show at Winchester last year. The pace lap was cool, after that it was snoozer. Lots of cars dropped out .

It's a non points show for HOSS. The AVSS guys from Michigan are off and some might come down.

I'd bet a few could run the USAC show on Sunday, but most HOSS cars don't have USAC legal bodies. But the double dip payday could make it worthwhile for some.

Overall it's a good weekend to go racing. Don't forget HOSS guys are all working guys with go fast hobbies. They only run Winchester once (now twice) this year.

The big question is what happens with USAC pavement next year?

i wonder if HOSS will have as many cars as usac may have had? 27 or so midgets at columbus. i still think usac would have had 16 to 20 cars at Winchester.

A small place like Columbus still gives a 'low buck' team a little bit of a shot.

Winchester and Salem require HP...big time HP, not to mention a good sized set of balls.

A low buck/weekend racer, can't afford the engine and tires to run Winchester and Salem (especially for the payback), and they can't afford to destroy the car up by POUNDING the wall.....

I saw Jeff Sands and Kenny Irwin Jr. get together and pound the wall going into 1 at Winchester at a USAC midget show, several years back. It sounded like a bomb went off when they hit the concrete. Both cars were essentially scrap afterwards.

Many factors go into a car owner/small teams decision, to run smaller tracks, and not run the wicked fast paved 1/2 miles.
