Lesiecki sweeps Rumble Series quarter-midget titles

INDIANAPOLIS – Jonathon Lesiecki is just 12 years old, but the youngster from Lorain, Ohio, already has won more season championships than most race drivers manage in a career.

Lesiecki locked up all four Rumble Series quarter-midget titles on Sunday at the Indianapolis Speedrome, winning two features while finishing second in the other two. He emerged as champion of the four-race summer series in Heavy Honda, Senior Honda, Heavy 160 and Light 160.

The quarter midgets – open-wheel cars for kids 5 to 16 – competed on a paved track laid out just inside the Speedrome’s historic fifth-mile oval. They served as support classes for the Rumble Series’ midget and UMRA TQ midget racing programs.

Next for the Rumble Series is the 12th annual “Rumble in Fort Wayne,” which will be held indoors on Saturday, Dec. 26 and Sunday, Dec. 27 at the Memorial Coliseum Expo Center in Fort Wayne, Ind. NASCAR star Tony Stewart and East Coast supermodified standout Lou Cicconi Jr. won the midget features last year. The event also includes winged modified outlaw midgets, karts and quarter midgets, with complete programs each day.

More information is available at www.rumbleseries.com.

Final point leaders:

HEAVY HONDA -- Jonathon Lesiecki 188, Kyle Kerns and Nathan Toney 138, Michael Gass 100.

SENIOR HONDA – Jonathon Lesiecki 188, Garrett Johnson 133, Skyler Bray 97, Tanner Ballard 84, Nick Staker, Austin Nigh and Rachel Marks 50, Ty Canoles 47, Riley Greenup and Taylor Srafin 42.

HEAVY 160 -- Jonathon Lesiecki 194, Michael Gass 100.

LIGHT 160 -- Jonathon Lesiecki 194, Nick Staker and Zach Freeman 50, Chris Hacker 44.

How do you run both Heavy and Senior classes and be successful?

When we ran QMs the driver (no suit or equipment) had to weigh over 100 pounds to run a Heavy class......once my son reached that level there was no way he could have been competitive in the senior classes, too much upper body weight to run with the light kids that could bolt weight into their car wherever they wanted it.

What was the car count? From what I have seen this season the car counts have been really low on the USAC side and off on the QMA side as well.

These two organizations are going to have to get together and figure out a single solution before they ruin QM racing.
