Just wondering if anyone on this board comes to Road America in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin for any of the road racing? I'm really setting myself up here posting that on this board, so blast away my friends! :30:

Yeah I have raced up there many times with SCCA. Was going to be going to the June sprints this month but wont because the car wont be ready in time. Its great that the SCCA Runoffs will be there this year. Will bring 700+ cars in Sept.

Sure wish I could get to some more races up there. I made many races when I lived closer.
There is no such thing as a bad weekend at RA. The Can-Am and vintage weekends were my favorites.
But, be it roaming around with the camera, crewing a Trans-Am or GT car or just spectating and eating roast corn, it was always anjoyable.
Now you have me checking the calendar to see if I can make any races.
Top the weekend off with a stop at the Prairie for some midgets and you have a perfect weekend.

I love road racing and hope to someday make it to Road America. I'm blessed with VIR only about 40 miles away and have watched the resurrected Trans Am this year and then the Rolex Grand Am the following weekend.

Been to Watkins Glen, Road Atlanta, VIR, the rovals at IMS and Charlotte (now Lowes). Tracks that I'd like to see are Mid Ohio, Sebring, Summit Point, Barber in Alabama, the street race at St. Pete.

I also see that there is a new road course called Bluegrass Motorsports Park near Sparta, KY. Supposed to be a few miles from the Kentucky Speedway. Looks like a sweet layout on their website.

Tim,
You should definetly go check it out some weekend. Maybe the ALMS weekend, or if you want to see a HUGE range of cars, the SCCA Runoffs would be fun weekend to camp out and have action all weekend long..Then at night, you can make a trip to Siebkens Resort Bar and take in the racing history and storys that still fill the room.
I raced SCCA Formula Fords there, and also was working on the Cart Circuit from 89-97. Never had a bad weekend there.....at least off track that is...ha

Hardest part of racing at Elkhart Lake, is when you smell the Brats cooking on the grills, and you can't stop to eat some.

Sounds like you did have some fun here in cheeseland. I wanted to ask if anyone here on the board comes to RA cause i live only 5 miles from the track and if anyone needed any help around the area i could try and be of assistance. I have lived this close to the track in all of my 45 years of living and have only stepped through the gates once. The Superbike weekend is this weekend and wanted to see if anyone was headed this way.

You live only five miles from the track and in 45yrs you've been there once?

That's a tragedy of epic proportion. Just the fact that you missed the original Can-Am series is bad enough.

If Grand-Am would race there, I would be up there in a heartbeat....I've always wanted to go there. I'll be at Mid-Ohio in a few weeks for the Grand-Am race there.

Let me add a few kicks as well Tim :2:

Hopefully you can get the chance to check it out again soon...You may want to check out a club racing forum, or an SCCA Forum.....When I was club racing, we would always welcome some help that would work for food and Beer.

I knew i was setting myself up for a blast here but i guess it's hard for me to get into a race that's on a track that's 4 miles long. I do park on a couple of the roads that you can see the cars going past and watch for a while but that's the extent of it. The one time i did go my Dad and i walked around for a while on a Sunday and it wasn't doing much for us so we left and headed for Sun Prairie. I guess i should check it out and i would help out for food and BEER, you could even skip the food part. Keep in mind i was just trying to show some hospitality but i guess if anyone comes up this way i could be persuaded to try it again, i just need a little push.
