Dean mills act of heroism

Just wanted to tell everyone who was not at Perris Auto Speedway last night about an act of heroism we witnessed. During hot laps, a fuel line loosened on the car of Royal Adderson. Adderson's legs were sprayed with fuel and fuel also got inside one of his driving shoes. A fire broke out and Adderson quickly slid to a stop in the middle of the front straightaway. Adderson feverishly unbuckled from the car and exited through the top of the cage. As he came out, flames were clearly visible on his legs. Dean Mills, who was standing nearby in shorts and a t-shirt, saw the flames and sprung into action. He was the first person on the scene, jumped on Adderson and began putting the fire out with his bare hands!!! Dean showed a total disregard for his own safety to help the driver. It was amazing to see and a true act of bravery.
Glad to report that Adderson is going to be ok. He took a trip to the hospital with burns on his leg, foot and thumb, but he was back by the end of the night.

It is in these kinds of moments that an essence of a person is demonstrated
---------- Post added at 03:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:11 PM ---------- Second comment We had a similar incident at Bloomington with the fuel line at Bloomington and I heard of another such incident in a pit discussion on Saturday - something is going on here. I reminds me of the 1996 season where several drivers had trouble with a lock mechanism on their steering wheels |

Like Don Moore has pointed out several times, the fuel pumps and fule lines need to be removed from the cockpit and put places where the situation are minimized even more. |

In my mind I always knew you could count on Dean for any problem. When you are racing, you can always see that in his eyes. Great racer! Thanks Dean.

I applaud Dean for his efforts, however I'm not surprised. The guy lives for our form of racing. He has passion for it & the people involved.
Way to go Dean, keep doing what you do. It is appreciated. |
