Although we would all like Manzy to remain at 35th & Broadway, it appears we may not get our wish. I have said it before and will repeat it I am baffled why a track is closing that has the car count and fan base Manzy does. On Thursday night 149 cars showed up to race at Manzy and last night 144.

Since the announcement of Manzy closing, I have learned on this board that Buckeye is one of the ares under consideration to relocate Manzy to. Being a Buckeye resident for the past five years I am certainly interested if this is just rumor or a true possibility. I am a member of a senior action group in Buckeye that is involved in the future growth of the community, last Thursday our group hosted a meeting with the Mayor, our District Councilman, and Fire Chief. After the Mayor made a brief speech he opened the floor up to a question and answer period, I took a golden opportunity to find out what I could about Manzy coming to Buckeye. Since most of the people in attendance had never heard of Manzy or had any idea where it is located, I gave a brief description of what has been happending with Manzy over the past two months and the benefits having Manzy move to our community would bring. Right away I could tell our Mayor had no idea Manzy was closing. On the other hand our Fire Chief over the years has been one of the Manzy faithful, working as an EMT at the track, on a race team and occasionally watching the races from the stands. Not only was he aware what was happending at Manzy he had the story on the land here in Buckeye and knows someone involved with the relocation of the track.

Yes there is land in Buckeye all ready zoned for a race track, something I certainly never knew before this week. This zoning took place several year ago, the description that he gave certainly made it sound like a driving school. However, he also stated there was enough land all ready zoned to include a dirt track and what the land was originally zoned for.

When our Mayor learned that Manzy possibility wanted to move to our community he showed a huge interest and he couldn't find out who to call fast enough.

Now you know what I know.

One added thought, when I first learned of the possibility of relocating Manzy anywhere I must admit I had negative vibes about it for a hole lots of reasons. First and foremost I don't think you can relocate the history that is Manzy, secondly I was concerned over EPA issues, etc, etc, etc.

Now, I must say I left that meeting with the feeling that relocating Manzy may not be the big monumental task I thought it was going to be. Especially when you have land all ready zoned for a race track and a Mayor that certainly came across like he couldn't come on board fast enough.

If tonight is in fact the last time that we will ever see a wheel turn on the Manzy that we all love and support then I am glad I attended that meeting, I now feel there my be another alternative than having to go on Indian land to build a new Manzy.
