What I'd like to know are some facts about the Cowtown Midget Championships race regarding the midget car count in the state of Texas.

I'm wondering if there's some 'midget aficionado' out there that can confirm when the last time in Texas there was a midget race that had this many cars at it?

There were 41 at Cowtown, and my guess is that it's been decades since that strong of field has been assembled.

Is there a Midgeteer (I think that's the 'racing term' called for someone that is a midget aficionado) out there that can confirm the facts with dates/events?

It would be nice to use that info for promotional purposes going forward.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing your responses. This should be kind of fun. :help:

PS: and I see that www.BryanClauson.com and http://jjyeley.com/newsdetail/621.aspx have added content from their sites from last weekend, thought you might like to check it out.

There was a two day midget show at Big H Speedway in Houston back in the winter of 1989 that had a big car count. I was there, but I really can't recall too many details. I know that KO was there, and that the winner of the final feature was the first for a Beast Chassis. I believe it was Dave Burns (but memory fades) driving. I have looked for details, but they are hard to find.

Also the SWIMS Tours of the early 80's had good car counts! I went in 82 or 83(??) with Mac Mclellan, and there was a really good car count. The only thing I could find was this: http://middelnet.www6.50megs.com/SWIMS.htm
We need Marty Boyer down Belleville way (anyone know how he is doing?)! He could tell ya! :thumb

Well now according to midget racing in Texas offical afficinado (IMHO) Bill Blaylock.

"I don’t ever recall midgets running at Cowtown, and I don’t think we have had a 42+ car count in TX since 1960 at the Pan American Speedway. I used go to stooge, photograph and write stories at SSMA events. They never had a car count above " 14 " back then?

They had 5 USAC shows from 1956 to 60 won by,
June 9, 1956 Midget Tommy Mangum
June 30, 1956 Midget A.J. Foyt
July 21, 1956 Midget A.J. Foyt
November 20, 1959 USAC Midget Tony Bettenhausen
April 9, 1960 USAC Midget Buddy Rackley

Throw in the Astrodome Midget Grand Prix ( it was an invitation only race) With a couple of races in 69 and one in 70. The 69 races having $64,000.oo purse.
Any one know what the car count was for these?

I knew this would be the right place to pose such a question.

Thank you all for your responses, you guys ARE midget aficionado's!

If anyone else has more stats, please feel free to follow-up. I'm just looking for a factual quote I can include in our next press release of a midget event down the road.
