An open letter of thanks

A.J. (my 11 year old) had a bad accident at the Columbus Indoor Quarter Midget races Saturday afternoon. He biked it coming out of 4, went over and hit the wall cage first, cracking his helmet and knocking him out briefly. When he continued to be disoriented the decision was made to call the ambulance and rescue personnel and cut him from the car and transport him to the hospital. He started to become oriented on the ride to the hospital (about 30 minutes later) and thankfully all X-rays and CT scans were negative. He will be wearing a C-collar for the next week for the whiplash and has been taking ibuprofen for the headache. The only time tears came from his eyes was when I told him the Quarter Midget was destroyed!!! :crying:
There are so many people I wish to thank for helping me and my son through this, I cannot begin to name them all. People who did not know me came and offered their help. A big thanks to the BQMRA, especially Liz and Dale, for the two gentlemen who held A.J.’s head immobile until help arrived, to the fire and rescue team who took every precaution in getting him out and to Ryan Stanley and another gentleman whose name I don’t know for loading up my stuff. The doctors and nurses at Childrens in Columbus were wonderful and also deserve my thanks. :respect: A.J. can’t wait to get back in a quarter midget although mom thinks he should retire. I just feel blessed that things were not worse and for being able to participate in a sport with so many wonderful and caring people. God bless you all!! Rob Hoffman |

Way to go everybody! Especially Cooley(Ryan Stanley). For those that don't know, that's the late Robbie Stanley's younger brother.

Glad to hear he's doing well. Hard to keep those cars on all four at Columbus. The racing community has to be the greatest bunch of people in the world!! They all come together when someone gets hurt.

I don't have any kids, but I'm not sure I could cope if I were in your guys' shoes.

Rob,
So glad that things turned out well. Kids are very resilient and seem to bounce back much quicker than us old farts. Being a parent of a racer has to be very difficult. I hope A.J. continues to being a driving force in racing. The Hoffman team has always been a winner and I am sure with Dad's help that will continue. I have always said that racers and race fans are a different breed. They seem to always jump right in to help and that is another great feeling knowing that they care. Good luck on convincing mother that he should continue to drive.
