I would call that a contributing factor, but not the primary reason.

Tmez had some good runs with the wing on down under. Hope he gets a good ride this year and no big rides for awhile. The starters are part of why but there is just too much downtime with dirt racing to be TV friendly. The stands are always packed when I see races in Australia and New Zealand. I wonder why that is ?

from toprowjim: they tried starters back during the ESPN Thunder days at that time starters added one thousand dollars to the price of the cars, maybe today starters could be made cheaper, it also added weight to the cars and rules had to change to accommodate that/ still some cars their starter didn't work and they had to be pushed off and a penalty was assessed sending that car to the back of the pack to start/ as a traditionalist I like things the way they are, changes for safety are good but once you start changing things then next thing you know we wind up with a car that looks like that "Gold Crown" thing they tried!

Since about nothing is cheaper now than it was 30 years ago, I suspect they would not be any cheaper. - I see High Limit going to these 1st tho...they can have it with their $400,000 "charters"...

I'd say someone should time from the start of a normal NASCAR caution, til they go green again; compared to a standard red-flag in a sprint car race. I'd suspect maybe not that much of a difference. And love it or hate it, NASCAR still gets the most TV ratings of any series in the US. At least on linear TV. I'm hearing big #s for FLO (at least the indoor race a couple weeks ago we aren't supposed to talk about on here), but I don't know what those #s are (are they published???) and I would be shocked if it was the 1m-3m the average NASCAR Cup race brings in...

I watched a 32 midget and 17 sprint car show run hotlaps to end of second feature at Burg two years ago run off in 1hr 25 minutes. Done at 725

Starters aren't needed. just hustle.
