Seriously? I have to be the one to start this thread? First of all, Clinton Boyles didn’t know that wet grinding a year and half old tire with Simple Green was a problem? He couldn’t find any water, and this old tire was so dirty he needed a strong cleaning agent like Simple Green to get the tire clean?
You grew up in racing. You KNEW that Simple Green alters tire compounds. You absolutely knew what you were doing. Admiting what you did after you got caught does not make you a role model. It makes you a cheater. |

Unrelated to that situation but if they make you run through an oil down on the track a lap or two then your tire gets checked I wonder if it would pass, if not would that be appealable.

Actually not an unrelated question. In the interview that Clinton conducted with Cody Cordell, Comp Director for the Chili Bowl, the question as to whether the tires were exposed to gasoline or methanol was raised. So I think being exposed to chemicals that could be on the track is considered. Now, why Simple Green would be on the track is anyone’s guess.
Bottom line, Boyles admitted that he “wet ground” an “old tire” (he specified it had a year and a half old build code, like that made it okay) a month ago in his shop with Simple Green and “wrapped it to keep it clean”. Why? Why would you go to those lengths to salvage an 18 month “old” tire? You’re Clinton Boyles! You telling me you’re having to dig through the junk tire pile and make up your Chili Bowl tires? And then, because you’re working as a commentator, you get to control the narrative when you get caught and try to convince everyone you’re a good guy and it’s great that rules are being enforced? Nah. I ain’t buying it. |

Interesting that two were disqualified. Clinton and 100% (Hunter) who has Clinton as his crew chief on the sprint car.
Things that make you go hhhhhmmmmmmm

This statement and warning from Chili Bowl official lasted what .. 2 days? LMAO
On Wednesday, Chili Bowl Nationals Technical Director Cody Cordell actually kicked someone out of the building after they were caught tire doping. And then on Thursday, Cordell addressed the topic at the driver’s meeting. “Listen, if you think it’s undetectable, I’m not going to sit here and babysit all of you,” Cordell said. “I can assure you, it is detectable. Think what you want. Play the game. But if you get caught, from here on out, you will not be back next year. And it will be known, and be made a scene.” Not only was he not asked to leave he stayed on the broadcast and gets to race next years Chili Bowl while the guy from Wednesday had to go home and can’t come back next year. Cordell has now lost all credibility he had gained on the issue.

That’s true, but on Tuesday they caught someone with illegal tires and made them leave the building and suspended them from next years Chili Bowl. When two were caught Saturday they were allowed to stay in the building but couldn’t race. They were also told they could race next years Chili Bowl. Which rule are we using?
