WESTERN MIDGET RACING AND BAY CITIES RACING ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCE NEW CALIFORNIA SUPER SERIES

The 2025 Midget season in California will include a new challenge for the teams when the Western Midget Racing and Bay Cities Racing Association join forces for the California Super Series. The seven race series for open Midgets will serve as the complete BCRA Midgets schedule for one of the nation’s oldest Midget sanctioning bodies. For WMR, the stock production Midget tour will add an Open Midget element to go along with a full season of stock racing planned as well.

Mike McCluney at WMR and Greg Dennett at BCRA have planned an outstanding schedule of action, with a minimum of $2,000 to win for all seven events. Four of the events will support the NARC King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series and at least five of the races will have coverage on FloRacing.

The excitement kicks off on April 5 at Placerville Speedway in a NorCal Challenge with the USAC Western Midgets. The first of the NARC co-promotions begins on May 10 at Antioch Speedway for the Graunstadt Memorial. A Super Series stop at Santa Maria is planned for June 7 for the Central Coast Clash.

After successfully fielding stock production Midgets at Ocean Speedway for several seasons, WMR will bring back Open Midgets to Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds on July 19 during the prestigious Howard Kaeding Classic with NARC.

Great Midget action at Petaluma Speedway resumes on September 20th during the 14th annual Adobe Cup supporting the Sprint Car Challenge Tour. October 11 sees the Super Series Midgets make their second Antioch Speedway stop along with NARC for the Open Wheel Oktoberfest.

The traditional championship weekend for Northern California dirt racing at Stockton Dirt Track will also crown the WMR/BCRA Super Series title on November 1. The 42nd Tribute to Gary Patterson features the NARC series finale as well.

The WMR/BCRA California Super Series will utilize the Bay Cities Racing Association Midget rules and procedures. More details will be announced at www.WesternMidgetRacing.com and www.BCRARacing.com when available.

For more information, contact Mike McCluney at (408) 499-5625 and Greg Dennett at (510) 376-3338

I can't open the WMR rules on my phone.

Are they similar to Badger or D2?

Just curious.

kd:

The WMR rollers are pretty much interchangeable with most other midget series.
Most of the engines are out-of-the-box EcoTech operating with OEM electric injection and ignition. Onboard starters required. Engines stand straight up, no offset (on center). There is a provision for Focus engines, but not popular.

This series is not utilizing the WMR EcoTec rules. It is an expansion for the WMR brand to now partner with BCRA on Open Midget races. There will be some bonuses for EcoTecs who run these Super Series races, too

There will still be a 10 race WMR EcoTec slate as well

Are there any WMR owners of cars which conform to the BCRA (aka Open) formula?
Drivers from the WMR have always been able to rent-a-ride in the BCRA.

Yes there is a lot of cross over between the two series. Teams going up to BCRA or down to WMR. Cameron Beard and David Prickett switched to WMR, Marvin Mitchell owns one car of each, Terry Nichols has a few of each, Kevin Felkins has run BCRA Midgets and is one of the main EcoTec WMR car owners, Kyle Hawse just moved into BCRA and USAC.

OK, those are folks who are already participating in BCRA events. They helped to swell the car counts to 9 or 10 cars. Where are the next 9 or 10 cars coming from? What aspects of the new series are sufficiently novel or attractive to bring cars out that may, in fact, still be in the Nor-Cal area, but have declined to participate even when presented with one-on-one entreaties? The management attitudes of the BCRA over the last 11 or 12 years has had the effect of turning a lot of cars into spider hotels.

I would very much like to see 2025 be a year of turn-around; what will be the spark? Would an open wheel swap meet in late January/early February be a starting point? 250s from Delta Speedway, 600s, Lightnings, Midgets, Sprints.

No USAC WM conflicts, an increased purse, a majority of the events paired with significant sprint car shows such as NARC events on Flo... those are some of the differences that are pretty readily apparent. Plus the effort from Dennett and McCluney
