The Chili Bowl has decided to lower the number of laps in Saturday's feature to 40. I think it is a good move as the track will not go away and it will make the race more competitive and exciting.

What are your thoughts on this move?

It will end ten laps earlier now, so the people who complain about it running too late (except earlier this year - that one ended pretty early, if I recall correctly) should be happy.

The gripe isn't the race length but rather the long drawn out time between the B and the A. All week long it's less than 30 minutes yet on Saturday it's over an hour. Have been there a few times and it sucks as much as being at home. It's not the track prep itself but all the other wasted time.

It was raised from 40 laps to 55 laps in honor of Donnie Ray Crawford. If I remember math class correctly that's 15 laps shorter.

I thought 55 was about perfect length for the race itself. it takes 15-20 laps to widen out to begin with. then 20 good two groove laps and a final 8-10 protect the berms. I've never been myself but fumes seem to take over even qualifying nights 25 lappers with full fields Awful smokiness looking from the front straight cam.

Idk Maybe ending on a wide track will lead to some unexpected moves. or a last corner slider.
It also is a hurry up for guys wanting to get forward.

The 55 laps was to honor Donny Ray Crawford.

It's one of many improvements this year. NO more light, experimental, traction control clowncars! LEGAL midgets what a concept. Will be a very competitive field for the first time in a long time wish I could attend.

Ok. 15 laps shorter. I had to go to a bar to watch (didn't have MAV) and the cheap beer was starting to set in by then...I didn't remember 100%...plus, last year ended before I got to or back to a TV I think. But, I woulda thought some realized my comment was to exaggerate those who gripe about the late time, so in turn, igi, yours was to exaggerate on mine...

I know. But hey, 15 laps should make those that gripe happy (does anything though?).

I liked the longer race. I usually didn't tune in (when it was on Mav) til whatever time I could get to a TV on Saturday night (didn't have it at home, so had to find it somewhere); and, at that point, the more coverage, the better! It was a rare "appointment TV" experience for me.

The delay for rework is what’s always so time consuming fumes I’ve never felt were horrible but i believe is the source of the “chili bowl flu” over the course of the week. Track will have taken rubber by lap 40 but it’ll stunt the length of it being bottom locked.
