Neat, Im wondering how the racing sceans would be shot or all animated. What do they do. Put some speedway equiptment in front of a blue screen, Simulate driving and fill in the rest. There certainly isn't Brick track around.

Too bad Paul Newman isn't hear and more importantly in his prime. He'd of fit in perfect .

Chuck, not sure how Id feel about Tom Cruise playing a 1911 racer. Maby they can hire Hewitt

From the story linked in the original post:

"Escue enlisted Roger Brummett, a longtime local businessman with contacts in motorsports, to assist as associate producer. Brummett recently helped secure an option on more than 200 acres in Whitestown, just north of Indianapolis, to construct a 1911-vintage Indianapolis Motor Speedway replica.

“The Speedway doesn’t now look anything like it did in 1911, so we couldn’t shoot there,” Escue said. Brummett has contacted well-known Indianapolis-based racetrack architect Paxton Waters to design the track.

Brummett and Escue also have secured a deal with Tennessee-based Coker Tire Co. to make 40 replica 1911-era Indianapolis 500 race cars. Coker officials have promised Escue’s group they can make all the cars in six months."

If they can keep it away from Hollyweird like they did Hoosiers, it has a shot at being a decent movie.

I did a paper in school on Carl Fisher. That was one interesting fellow. Not only did he develop the speedway (along with Allison and others), he started miami beach and helped develop our first highway systems. I hope the film happens.

a couple of years ago I remember hearing that the Action Track was to be a possible double for the Speedway in the movie. I wonder what happened?

Talk of a shopping center???

Sounds like they plan to build a replica 1911 speedway, much like they did for The Alamo. John Wayne reconstructed the Alamo to scale for that film. Unfortunately, that's about the only thing he got right. The film starring Billy Bob Thornton as David Crockett was much more accurate.

Hopefully, Pizzo and group will achieve the same thing with this film. I do find it curious that that the Speedway has a wait-and-see attitude on this film project -- unless there is some other venture they'd rather support. I remember back when Days of Thunder was announced that a group -- that included Al Unser Jr. -- announced a movie project about IndyCar racing that never got made.

I read the same thing on the Speed TV website about the replica track. I went back there and tried to find the article, but could not locate it. I got pumped up when I read that the same guys that made "Hoosiers" are putting this movie together. In my opinion, "Hoosiers" is one of the best sports movies ever made. I hope things work out, for I might finally break down and go to the movie theater.
