BOSS Set To Make Historic Oakshade Debut
It all began on June 25, 1976 at Oakshade Raceway when Fred Linder won the opening night main event over his brother, Jim Linder, for winged sprint cars on the 3/8 mile oval. Ron Semelka, Ed Meier, and Jim Ehrsam were the original owners of the 3/8 mile dirt oval loacted near Wauseon, Ohio. The track was built with sprint cars in mind along with a 6 cylinder class as a support division. And there was no better location for a dirt track, as the "Father" of dirt track racing, Barney Oldfield, was born there in 1878! Sprint cars of some sort (410, 360 or 305) were a regular feature until around the turn of the millenium. Now, after nearly 20 years, the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series is proud to bring the oldest race cars on the planet back to Barney Oldfield's hometown race track! This Saturday, June 1st, BOSS will not only bring sprint cars back, but it will be the first ever non wing show there. "It only took me 8 years working on them", said BOSS promoter Aaron Fry. He added, "Pam Henricks and I had an annual conversation and she repeatedly promised that when the time was right, they would go with us......and 2019 became the right time." Defending tour champion, Bill Rose, from Plainfield, Indiana will lead the BOSS field into this event. He has a 20 point lead over Dallas Hewitt who is followed by 2015 & 2016 champion, Shawn Westerfeld. Matt Westfall and Michael Fischesser round out the top 5. The rest of the top 10 includes Lee Underwood, Dustin Ingle, Justin Owen, Cody Gardner and Dustin Webber. The 11-15 spots are Kory Crabtree, 2014 champion Mike Miller, Matt Cooley, Korbyn Hayslett and last year's series runner-up, Ty Tilton. The UMP late models, Bombers and Compacts will join what promises to be a large field of traditional sprint cars. Gates will open at 4pm with hot laps at 6 and racing at 7. General admission for ages 12 and up is just $14 with kids age 6-11 just $5. Children 5 and under are free. Pit passes are only $25. For teams competing, the tire rule remains open through this event. We will be using the yellow Westhold transponders that will be available to rent for $10. There are never any membership fees or entry fees to race with BOSS. Mufflers are NOT required for this race. The standard event payout will be as follows: 1500, 900, 700, 600, 500, 450, 400, 375, 350, 325, 300, 290, 280, 270, 260, 250, 250, 250, 250, 250. We will start 20 cars in the main event, however, we do pro-rate the field. If there are 30-39 cars entered, the A-Main field increases to 22 starters. If there are 40+ cars entered, we will start 24 cars. Heat race money and bonus money is also up for grabs thanks to TCB Speed, Hoosier Race Tire, Performnace Powder Coating, All Star Performance, All Pro Cylinder Heads, Cowen Truck Line, Apple Metal Polishing, The Bridge Restaurant, NAPA Auto Parts and Mark Cole Insurance Agency. Make plans now to knock this historic facility off your sprint car "bucket list". We hope to see everyone out this Saturday. More information can be found by visiting www.oakshaderaceway.com

Good luck to you at Oakshade! I hope you draw a large crowd from Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio to this track and to BOSS non wing sprint cars. Aaron you have done a masterful job with this series and the new to BOSS tracks in 2019 are a testament to your efforts.

We had at least 28 sprints out of their trailers at Oakshade and more coming in. All the BOSS regulars plus names like Chapple, Meseraull, Matt Lucius, the return of Aaron Middaugh and Paul Dues ...... too many to list. If the weather would have been better, we would have had 40+ tonight. Makeup on Saturday, August 10 making a doubleheader with Gas City on Friday, August 9.

Too bad about the weather at Oakshade tonight. What a great double of BOSS in August as a consolation prize. Gas City and Oakshade are locked in on my racing calendar.
