NEARLY $25,000 PAID OUT AT MERRILL DOWNEY MEMORIAL
Owensboro, Kentucky’s Tyler Nicely took home the lions share of the $24,690 Budweiser UMP Modified purse Saturday night when the Lawrenceburg Speedway hosted the 7th Annual Merrill Downey Memorial. Thanks to Lawrenceburg Speedway Fire-Rescue and the Merrill Downey Family Nicely picked up several bonuses in addition to his $4,444 winners check. Nicely won the dash ($444), led all forty-four laps of the feature ($1,936), and by being the first driver to win the Merrill Downey Memorial twice he picked up the $1,000 repeat winners bonus, giving him a grand total of $7,824 for his night's work. Although he came oh so close, the only thing Nicely didn’t win was qualifying. Nicely’s lap of 16.693 seconds in Qualifying Group C was 0.363 seconds slower than Ryan Thomas and only good enough for seventh quick in his group. Had Nicely been quicker than Thomas he would have earned another $100 plus a $4,444 clean sweep doubler bonus! In addition to the posted purse several drivers received extra money for their efforts:
Lawrenceburg Speedway would like to thank the sixty-six modified teams and drivers for participating in the 7th Annual Merrill Downey Memorial honoring the former track champion and we look forward to the eighth running of this race next summer. ![]() For More Information – www.lawrenceburgspeedway.com |
