A few years after the accident it appears Tony Stewart and the family of Kevin Ward have reached a settlement pending judges approval.

The only thing good about this entire ordeal is it is finally over. I feel a degree of sorrow for everyone involved.

Fighting to prove you are innocent in a court of law and then reaching a settlement later as a civil manner is setting one of the worse precedents possible for racing.

I totally disagree with Tony having to pay anything! The kid was wrong in everything he did that night from smokeing pot to climbing out of the car and Tony"s got to pay for him being stupid Just not right!

Except the lawyers. They win every time.

Yep got that right and it gets worse everyday.
Where does it end ? Anybody can sue anyone else for anything. Who's to say that someone wont sue for a wrecked race car ?
I understand someone with ample income who is facing a civil suit making a payoff to make it go away even if they feel they have done no wrong but I also understand that it sets a bad example. Say you aint rich and someone decides that maybe they'll go for your house or garnish your wages for the rest of your life. Your a fool if you think there arnt lawyers that will take any case and judges who will hear the same. Bottom line was that it was Wards actions that caused his death, why a payoff ?

I honstly don't get it either and I guess if Smoke was broke, this wouldn't even see the light of day. But if they're's $$$ to be taken off of someone who was determined not at fault. Some lawyer will find a way to get it.

I would certainly think that at this point it is just a dollars and cents thing. Its going to cost Stewart less by settling this now, than to keep on fighting it in the court rooms. Right or wrong, only a hand full of people will actually know.

I pretty much agree, but this case doesn't set any kind of precedent. Thats up to higher courts. Each case stands alone, poor people don't have to settle just because Tony did.
