Ladies and gentleman, I believe you are actually looking at the inspiration of the new cars rather than the alternative. The very first moment I saw the new cars that is what I thought they had been copied to look like. If anybody remembers a few articles w/Humpy (mid-late 90's I believe) the way the new cars look was basically his vision of what he felt they needed to look like and sometime after the articles he released the roadster.
While I am not a great fan of the design of the 600 racing roadster. It has some simularities to the roadsters, but I always felt the wide tail and flatness of the hood area made them look too much like an imitation rather than an insperation of that type of look. One things for sure though, when you paint it with the candy white/red with the number 1 it stirs enough sentimental emotion that it's easy to look past those details. I will say though that I think that is a great place to start from and refine.
I have seen some of the videos posted on here and they put on a great show at IRP. I saw them once I believe at Anderson, and wasn't as impressed but that was a while ago when they where newer.

I saw the Thunder Roadsters run at Atlanta Motor Speedway last fall. They ran a modified oval with a chicane going into turn 3. THey put on a heck of show with the top three or so swapping the lead numerous times. They were big on the slingshot pass.
And they are a support division at Winchester on Sunday.

why would any openwheel fan listen to a stock car guy named "Humpy"?
Makes alot of sense to mold your series to the wishes of a Stock Car promoter.
These "thunderjet roadsters are giant POS legends cars
