33 MMSA Lightning Sprints pack Bloomington !

Bloomington Speedway was the host for the highly anticipated 2016 MMSA season opener, the weather was perfect as 33 MMSA drivers signed up for their chance to win at the historical speedway!

Three (10) car heat races were laid out with the addition of some late arrivals pushing the MMSA car counts over 30.

Heat one was dominated by Lynn Ambrose coming from deep in the field.

Heat two was a victory for Monrovia driver Drew Dorsett, and heat 3 was captured by his team mate Rod Henning.

The "B" main was won by Collin Ambrose driving the #11a Hayhurst Special.

Four cars transferred to the "A" completing the 20 car field.

Brandon Smith (11) led the field to green with Henning (10d) on the outside of row one. When the green dropped Hot Rod Henning (10d) was able to take the advantage, although challenged by the (4) of Colin Parker through out the 20 laps Henning (10d) was able to hold on capturing the first win of the season.

There was a lot of red flags. But this was the first time I've seen them with out the wings and I thought they were pretty racey. Enjoyed watching them.

Tom,

We had around 9 guys last night who never operated a racing vehicle of any type. These guys have to start somewhere and even you sir where a rookie and some point... (If you even own a racecar) the series wasn't the only class with red flag issues I believe USAC and even the 305s had a few.

Andy, Did Tom or anyone else measure & compare the total time delays for restarts after red flags in all 3 divisions? If so, I suspect it would show that a mini sprint red will restart much quicker than the push starts, just a thought.

Bill

Flat probably has not watched many one hour Modified 20 lap enduro races in the past.. I have from the line up chute. Everybody has to start someplace. He probably did not notice some very very good drivers also racing in the MMSA Mini Sprints.
