Tony Stewart has been hospitalized with a back injury, according to a statement issued by his Stewart-Haas Racing team.
According to the SHR statement, Stewart was hurt in a non-racing accident Sunday afternoon and was transported to a hospital in an undisclosed location. The team added that Stewart is able to move all his extremities.
Stewart-Haas spokesperson Mike Arning added that an update on Stewart's condition "will be provided Thursday afternoon when more information is known."
Stewart, 44, is a three-time champion in NASCAR's top league and is entering his final full season as a driver for SHR in the Sprint Cup Series.

From what I have read so far sounds like it was a ATV or Sand Buggy accident.

I wish the best for Tony Stewart.
His time at Chili Bowl working on
track prep during the week was
sure appreciated.

Best Regards,

John

I read the article on ESPN and like I usually do I read the comments. What a sick society some people have become with the posts on the past of Tony's dark days and how dangerous Atvs are. I hope Tony recovers quickly.

From what I can desern, Tony Jumped a dune, Landed and the Buggys shocks bottomed out. No damage to buggy but the shock of the landing injured his back. How bad I have no idea but they don't keep you several days for a simple fracture.

Thought there was supposed to be official updates today. Its almost 2pm

Edited to add this. Because it sounds similar to what Kevin Swindell is now sayin about his accident. That when there is nothing left to absorb the shock, Your body absorbs the remaining kinetic energy and something has to give

Unfortunately, it was just reported that he will miss the beginning of the season. However, he is expected to be back in the car at sometime this year.

Sucks that he won't get a chance at that elusive Daytona 500 in his final season.
