I spoke with good friend Marty Gilmore last night, who is one of the flagmen who was seriously injured at Eldora Speedway back in 1994. It was the first lap of a modified feature and Mark Phlipot got squeezed up into the wall off of turn 4 on the first lap of the feature and climbed the wall and took off airborn hitting the flagstand. Marty and Gib Steinke, the 2nd flagmen were airlifted from the scene and are very fortunate to be here today.

Shortly after the incident back in 1994, Marty asked me to try to find a video of the accident. Back then we found one video that was taken from the grandstand area. Last night he told me there is supposed to be a video that was taken from the pit area. He would like to find a copy of the pit side video.

It's been a long time but you never know, a pit side video may still be out there. If any of you know of one, please let me know and I will hook you up with Marty.

If you know someone that was going to Eldora back then, please help Marty out and see if they would know of any video's.

Thank You

Thanks Bill and Jerry for the bumps. I just spoke with Marty and he said to pass on a thank you to those that have and will be viewing this thread. We all know this is like hunting a needle in a hay stack but you never know. Maybe we'll get lucky.

The actual date of the incident was July 9th, 1994. He thinks it was an All Star show. This was actually racing career ending for all three involved, Marty and Gib the flagmen, and Mark Phlipot, the driver of the modified. Poor Mark also took quite a "beating up" in the ride he took. He flipped, rolled, bounced and banged most of the way down the front stretch. Now, remember, this was 1994 in a modified. The old no padding seat,,etc. For a long time Mark blamed himself for the crash but there was nothing he could do. Another competitor came in under him on the start and forced him up into the wall. All three of the guys are the best of friends and have had some great times spectating together since this happened.

I will be gone a lot of the weekend at the races so a bump here and there would be appreciated. I hope this will stay pretty close to the front page til the first of the week. Again, thanks to all that have and will be trying to help the guys out. :thumb

Hi Joe Kidd, how you doing? Haven't seen ya for awhile.

Yes, if you or anyone else that reads this post would like to post it on any of the other boards, please do. I have been just so busy with my health issues, going racing as much as I can, and having some problems at home that I just haven't been able to take the time needed to get on this project yet as I need to and post it anywhere else yet.

The fella's will appreciate all any of you can do to help. As I said earlier, this is like hunting a needle in a hay stack but with all the great racing folks here on IOW we may just get lucky.

Thank You again to all that have or are trying to help the fella's out. :thumb

Jerry Clum used to shoot video of the All Stars. Don't know if he was doing it in 1994. It would be worth a try to contact him.
D.O. might know how to reach him.
