In the latest issue of Hemmings is one of the USAC Gold Crown cars for sale. A true collectors item. You can own one of thirteen. What were they thinking? Oh, they weren't. Got to see them race at Darlington and enjoy the announcer shouting Pablo Donoso, Pablo Donoso. It was a fun time.
I have to wonder if ANYBODY involved in that deal came out breaking even or better.... I know the people who purchased one peed a ton of money away... I can't imagine the company/companies that built them made any money because surely you would have to sell more than 13 to offset the R&D, tooling and startup cost for a new design car...even down to the company that made the wheelnuts... those guys had to do an emergency retool and remanufacture when the flare of the nuts didn't sync up with the flare inside the wheels and caused wheels to come loose the first time they raced the things.
So does anybody know if any individual or company actually came out better than they started when that whole thing got going???
in my opinion, that's a topic that needs no research. the worst move ever for silver crown racing ever! maybe in all of racing! (well might have to research that)
Once I read what was for sale, I realized the guy who was trying to sell it needs to do a lot of research. I saw that contraption he had for sale somewhere, but like a bad dream , I'm trying to forget it.
