Next MTQRL Race September 13th at the Montpelier Motor Speedway

The Midwest TQ Racing League presented by Jenmarco.com started the 2014 season with a promising schedule of nineteen races. After five rainouts, a track closure, and ten races run, we are now down to the final three events.

Mother Nature has played havoc with the schedule the last few weeks causing events scheduled for August 16th and 23rd to be rained out. The last MTQRL race completed was August 9th at the Montpelier Motor Speedway where Matt Arrington won his second consecutive feature. Arrington will have to wait 2½ more weeks to see if he can make it three-in-a-row on September 13th when the MTQRL three-quarter midgets return to Montpelier.

Cody Kiewitt after a Perfect North Slopes Heat Race Win on July 9th at the Columbus Fair
Cody Kiewitt is the current MTQRL point leader and although he has not led the standings all season he has never been ranked lower than second, nor been more than twenty points out of the lead.

Four-time MTQRL Champion Tate Martz opened the season with a win and sat atop the standings for the first two races until Kiewitt wrestled the lead away after finishes of second, second and fourth. Martz battled back to regain the top spot by a mere one point after the Rushville Nationals on July 4th, but a rare mechanical failure the following race at the Columbus Fair, coupled with a Ronnie Combs win, left Kiewitt and Combs tied atop the standings.

Kiewitt, the 2012 Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Year, retook sole possession of the point lead the following race at the Kokomo Speedway and has held the top spot ever since.

There are a total of 425 points available at the final three races with the top eleven drivers still mathematically alive for the championship. In reality, it should be a six driver battle between Kiewitt, Arrington (-18), 2013 MTQRL Champion Nick Speidel (-71), Martz (-91), Logan Arnold (-105) and Combs (-111).

The MTQRL will crown its 2014 Champions at its annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony, which will be held on December 6th at the Hampton Inn in Greensburg, Ind.
