At the start of the meetings, the track is smooth and slick, but the spikes on these tires are exteremly long. They are designed to puncture deep into the ice and it is impossible to keep it slick. In North Ameircan indoor ice racing, sheet metal screws are screwed into the knobs of the tires and they just get grip, but do not tear deep into the ice surface. Yet, by the end of those meetings, many times the riders are all the way through the ice down to the cement. The Euro spikes as in the video, would be down to the cement after one heat at a North American indoor race.
There not running AMA screws like most of us do, lots of people around here running Canadian screws now which tear a track up in a hurry.
Like how with those spikes they don't even have a left foot peg, the dirt Speedway cycle stuff is very cool too.
