When the concept of running 3 nights in a row at the same track became a reality we really wanted to become a part of the event in more then just a "participant" roll. We discussed what makes Indiana Sprint Car Racing so different then other forms of motorsports. When it came down to it the ability to pass cars and just flat out put on a show whether it be a heat race C-main B-main or A-main. We wanted to come up with a way to reward drivers no matter what event they put on a "show" in. in Every event competed through out the first 2 nights of Smackdown we have been awarding points for cars passed from where you started to where you finished. The points are awarded the same no matter the event Heat, Qualifying race, C-Main, B-main, and A-Main. Here are the top 10 ten leading into tonights event where the qualifying races and the charges from the back of the "A" are sure to change these up by the checkered flag tonight.
These are the guys that make us all want to have our butts in the bleachers. If you have stayed at home waiting for updates and could have made it, you have missed two great nights of racing. Tonight I am sure will only add to these totals and the excitement of being a part of this great event.
So much of this exciting racing has taken place behind the front runners. It can be tough to follow at times because you can be following the leaders and miss the action back in the pack.
A great deal of the credit goes to Reece O'Connor and the track crew. They have prepared the track for multiple lines of racing and the drivers have shown that with 3 and sometimes 4 wide racing.
On Thursday night they did a 15 minute touch up prior to the feature and last night they didn't touch the track once racing started. This when the daytime temps have been at or near 90 degrees. In talking to some of the drivers in the pits afterwards, they noted that they could have run another entire feature as the track was still in excellent racing condition.
Looking forward to another great night of traditional sprint car action this evening at Kokomo. Hope to see many of you there.
Mike
Be nice to people on the way up. You might need them on the way down. Jimmy Durante
