Just heard they've added winged sprints to both championship nights at Belleville. This really pisses me off. Do they really need a support class? The answer is no, but in wing country thy're bound to weasle their way in eventually, just like they've done at Oskaloosa this year. Modifieds would put on a much better race. On top of that, how can the promoter of Eldora justify putting winged sprints on the card with the 50th Anniversary of USAC non-wing sprints? USAC is the one oranization that stood for traditional sprints back in the day and you're gonna put wings in at your special race for them. That's just sacreligous to me. Part of the problem I have with them is that even 305 winged sprints turn faster laps than 410 wingless ones, which cheapens the non-wing product some. I wish USAC would stand up to this and put a stop to it at their races. Once they infiltrate you won't get rid of them. They are the cancer of sprint cars. If you are from Indiana and constantly enjoy non-wing sprints close to home, you cannot understand my hatred as an Iowan. I HATE WINGS!

For whatever reason, I suppose in the name of progress people think faster is better. Folks like you and me see thru the crap, give me a drivers car and the sideways the better. Wings literally get me sick to my stomach. Add to the fact that you get wusses calling nonwinged car's unsafe, maybe it will the beginning of the end for the last true nonwinged mecca. How long is it before some lawyer decides to make a name or money off the fact that it has been stated that nonwinged cars arnt safe and stupid judgement calls are made when someone gets hurt in what will simply be a racing accident. Think it cant happen ? it has around here already. I've talked to one promoter who stated that for insurance reasons he wont run nonwinged and another that is convinced that the drivers cant handle a nonwinged car because of it not being glued to the ground. I'm surprised that posts questioning a nonwinged cars saftey arent deleted immediately, being this is a nonwinged site and all.

Throwback: You're right, Kansas is definitely wing country, so saying the winged sprints have "weaseled" in probably isn't accurate. Like it or not, the task of the Fair Amusement Board at Belleville is to put butts in seats. Apparently, they're of the opinion that running a Kansas-sanctioned 305 (winged) group will help accomplish that. And maybe they're right. Personally, I prefer non-wing also, but I give a pass to those fans who have other preferences. There's always been plenty of down time at the Midget Nationals, so adding the 305s to the show might keep fans more involved. For those who are indifferent, or like you, HATE wings, it's a short walk to the 2nd most popular spot on the fairgrounds...the beer garden.

Backitin: I would guess that, if polled, the majority of IOW members prefer non-wing racing, but last time I checked, it's still called Indiana Open Wheel, not Indiana Non Wing. I would also guess that Bill welcomes any discussion of safety in racing, regardless whether it involves wings or not.

If the engine and tire situation in midget racing was a lot more reasonable and there were still 60 guys willing to run their cars wide open on that big a track for 2 nights straight there would be no reason to add another class to the midget nationals....hard to put on a multi day show with that big a purse with only 23 cars in the pits... and Kansas/Missouri are not "wing country"....it's "door banger country"...us open wheel fans around here feel so overwhelmed with seeing 5-8 classes of fenders everywhere we go that winged 305s as the only support class to a midget show sounds like paradise regardless of how we feel about the wing vs nonwing thing.

we have one weekly track here in SW MO that runs 3 classes of modifieds every week, along with legends, pure stocks, super stocks and whatever other names they can come up with for door bangers....seriously.....THREE CLASSES OF MODS!!! they keep adding a class every 3-4 years because they let the last one get out of hand cost wise...

The NRA 360 sprints where on the schedule at eldora before this was a usac race,and the 360s ran this time last year when this was a open race. So the real question is why are you complaining about watching 2 sprint car races?

My favorite form of racing is traditional non-winged sprint cars on dirt. However if all sprint cars had wings I'd still be a fan.

So I guess everyone is happy with the fact we get to see Barney Craig, Earnie Woodard and the rest of the bombers on Saturday night. Now if you wanna ***** that is what you should be ******** about.

I've been going to sprint car races in Indiana since 1965. I've been to literally hundreds of 'em. And never once was it for those aluminum hog sheds some folks call wings.

The only problem I have with wings and non-wings on the same card is the track. The wing cars tend to totally slick off the track and leave almost no cushion but a little sliver right at the top. Maybe the 305's aren't as bad as this, but I would still run the non wing feature first.
