A good friend and competitor of mine is racing in the Under 21 world speedway championships in europe, representing the USA. We came up thru the ranks together till his outright speed dominated. Its a great accomplishment for him and anyone who likes sideways (a speedwaybike is pretty much a two wheeled sprinter) should say a prayer and wish him good luck. The tracks are scary fast over there and he loves it, thats what scares me ! His name is Mike Buman, from Binghamton NY, go mikey !

Yep, and still winning. I believe he won last week or the week before. They're the nicest guys in the world too, when he rode here he'd be one of the first to congratulate you on a D2 main win. Do you know of Kelly Moran ? He was the nicest guy ever, In Europe he was a huge star and know as the wizard of balance. I was lucky enough to ride one day, just me and him. It was his first time riding in 7 years. He augured himself into the ground five times that day, doin like 70mph. Made me feel better cuz the first time I rode I crashed hard 3 times, doing maybe 50. Anyhow, each time he got back up kicked his bike kinda straight and rode a couple inches from the wall again. I knew I had to man up and fuel it, lol. RIP Kelly.

I think he rode before I started getting into Speedway. I don't get to see it other than on TV. Wish there was some racing in my area.

If you want to follow speedway in the US check out www.speedwaybikes.com/.

SoCal based but Howie does a good job of covering speedway in the US. There is a great spot on Greg Hancock in his 2012 Nicest People List. Hancock is currently 2nd in GP race.

Plus the US team made up of Hancock and Hamill just qualified for the World Team championships

If you want UK speedway check out - www.speedwaygp.com

If you want worldwide speedway news check out - www.worldspeedway.com

All very good sites.

Alongside Hancock and Hamill on the world team are Ryan Fisher and Ricky Wells w/ Kenny Ingalls riding in reserve.

....and if you want to see photos of the '80s & later speedway scene in (primarily) SoCal check out Scott Daloisio's site at www.speedwaymotorcyclephotos.com. Great pictures of most of the great SoCal riders of the time.

Speedwaybikes.com is kinda a crap site. It used to be good but is now run with a censor on it. If you dont agree with certain folks your blackballed or get slammed by someone hiding behind they're computer. Theres also speedwaybikes.com2 a split off of some people who didnt get along with the other. I still post there occasionally my name is Bob "Badger" Bruzek east coast #9. God bless speedway and sprintcars

Yeah, you have to be a bit ballsy to win races I guess. That being said most riders like to talk like they're doing something almost impossible, I think that scared away some potential riders. I stated that i crashed pretty hard a few times the first time I rode, it doesnt really have to be that way. I just had a goal of winning races right away so my learning curve was pretty steep. I do know if you race speedway at least one body part hurts all summer, every summer. Its usually someone else that takes you out.
