The Midwest TQ Racing League (MTQRL) will open their 2012 season on Saturday evening May 12th at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Madison, Indiana.
Greg Staab, MTQRL Director of Racing Operations, has worked hard in the offseason to develop a schedule that both sticks to the grassroots philosophy of three-quarter midget racing but is also diverse enough to offer variety to its competitors and fans. The Jefferson County Fairgrounds is the epitome of grassroots racing with its covered grandstands and fifth mile paper clip shaped oval.
Saturday will mark the ninth appearance of the MTQRL three-quarter midgets in Madison. Muncie’s Nick Speidel was the most recent driver to visit victory lane on September 17th of last season when he held off 2011 Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Year Cody Kiewitt and Chris Mann to score his fourth career MTQRL win.
Other drivers to have earned wins at Madison include defending MTQRL champion Tate Martz, 2010 Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Year CJ Leary, Jason Knoke and Kenny Byrge. Lawrenceburg’s Jason Willis has three wins at Madison and is the current track record holder.
General admission is $8.00 for adults, $5.00 for children 7-12, and 6 and under are free. The grandstands will open at 5:00 pm with practice at 6:00 pm, qualifications at 6:30 pm and racing is set to begin at 7:30 pm.
Several areas around Madison were devastated by tornados on March 2nd and the MTQRL would like to extend an offer to those residents. Any individual who presents a drivers license with either a Holton or Henryville, Ind. address will receive FREE general admission for themselves and their children.
