Not open wheel but it was 17 years ago today that Davey Allison was killed in a tragic accident. I was always a big Bobby Allison fan so I just passed that onto Davey. Just think how NASCAR would have been different of not for the losses of Davey, Alan Kulwicki and Tim Richmond.....

I was 13 years old and on vacation with my family in Gatlinburg. I was a diehard Allison fan. I remember I had a Davey shirt and hat on racing go karts when some stranger came up and informed me he was in a helicopter crash. I went to bed that night praying Davey would pull through... Waking up in the morning only to hear of his passing. 17 years later, I still miss him. Thanks for bringing this up I have such great memories of Davey.. I only wish I could have met him..

I remember when Keith Oberman from some espn show told the sad news on tv. Anyone watching Keiths show on MSNBC today needs to go get there brain checked out!

I went to the Talladega race the next weekend where Donnie drove the #28 around the track as a pre-race tribute. Robbie Gordon drove the car in the race.
