I suppose you could say the race drivers that drove the following Vintage Race Cars were the "True Grit" or maybe the drivers from the days of "Blood, Sweat, and Tears." Guts they had without a doubt, brave racers every one of them. But, as I see it, even without all the safety equipment, they did what they loved doing - open wheel racing.
Also, a salute to all the courageous present day open wheel drivers, be it midget, sprint car, Silver Crown, supermodified, Indy Car, F1, etc.
