I remember those crashes quite vividly, especially Dave Darland's . Didn't realize it had been that long ago.

It's amazing how similar both those were and they were in nearly the exact same spot...

I remember how stunned I was when I saw I how high in the air Darland's front tire was... Definately these were two bad crashes... IMO... these crashes totally changed how the USAC National Points ended up that year.

I also remember those two (how could you forget???) and they bring to mind two other wild ones in about that area of the track. Tracy Hines in a midget (Ralph Potter's, I think) and Brad Noffsinger entered the pit area in much the same unrecommended manner in a sprinter. Makes me thank God for roll cages and lament the fact that they weren't mandated sooner, mac miller protestations notwithstanding. :wink1:
