Tim mentioned used mags for around $400 and used injectors around $800. So that brings up the questions about maintenance. How often should these items be overhauled? What does it cost? Am I correct in assuming that both of these parts should be overhauled by specialists?

Lucky,

I figured you'd get plenty of answers to this but I guess I was wrong. As far as mags go, I figure on freshening mags every 60 or so shows. I use the Mallory SprintMag II, so I can't comment on others. I"ll send them in to Mallory when it comes time. I figure the cost, including wear parts, to be around $2-300.

I've not had the need yet to overhaul injectors. I would assume the best thing is to send them to the manufacturer. Throttle shaft bushings and linkages are the only things that come to mind as wear parts.

I too was hoping for more responses, but I guess there's not much interest. I do appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions.

From listening to people and hands on experience mags should be checked yearly but I have had a internal vertex mag for years and it's still kickin (beleive me I know it shocked the @#$% out of me just a couple a weeks ago when I loned it a friend). I have went to the MSD mag now and I love it. I will always send my mag stuff to a mag shop but I always check my injectors myself as the post before stated there is not much to wear out (bushings, linkage, heims, ect.) If you have any other questions you can contact me through a PM or call 812-606-6687. I might not be able to answer your question but I can try to find someone who can.

I thought it only took one time for people to learn not to spin the shaft on a mag.

My questions are basically to put together a budget proposal which may or may not ever amount to anything. But I appreciate your info.

Here at Magtech ..we like to see the mags back atleast once a year. We do have some teams that send their MSD mags in every engine rebuild..that way they keep fresh mags in the motors. The rebuilds can be anywhere from $250 - $800 depending on what kinda shape the mags in..rust, worn out bearings etc etc. Give us a call & we will try to answer any questions you may have.
