Sammy Swindell Sets His Sights on The 42nd Annual Western World Championships

Tucson, Arizona (September 21st, 2009) – After nearly a decade absence, Sammy Swindell will return to the 42nd running of the Western World Championships presented by Old Tucson Studios, looking to top the prestigious list of winners that includes his son, 2008 winner Kevin Swindell. One of only two drivers to ever win the event in both winged and non winged action, Swindell will set sail in the Tom Rolfe Maxim as he looks to take home the $15k and a third Western World title.

Sammy’s unrivaled career includes World of Outlaws titles, stints in the upper ranks of both Indy Car and NASCAR racing, more than 600 career feature wins, victories in virtually anything worth winning and most recently sweeping the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals for an unprecedented 5th title.

With 30 WWC preliminary and final night features under his belt, Swindell has finished in the top five 22 times with a total of 7 feature wins. Ironically, Sammy’s last Western World victory came on the heels of his first Chili Bowl Midget Nationals victory.

More than one hundred sprint cars will be expected to join Sammy and the Tom Rolfe team as they take part in what will be one of the biggest sprint car events in the country

A $15,000 share awaits the winner of the Lucas Oil ASCS season-ender on November 21, with the Discount Tire Co. ASCS Canyon Region conqueror on November 21 pocketing $5,000.
