A great day for me, watching one of my all time favorites Johnny Parsons win at DuQuoin in 1992.

this day was probly my first real clear racing memory. cause i was on a mission to get as close as a 3 year old could to JP lol... but my favorite has to be Kasey Kahne in the Zaronian 67 just cause i hit like 5 races in 3 days it was great lol and watching Ed Caprenter all kinda crossed up every lap coming in to 1 was cool as hell lol...

Look at the names on the list that day.........

If just making a list, that would be an all-time list of open wheelers. Nearly all of the best of the late 20th century and they all raced together in 1992.

Think about it.....Larry Dickson,George Snider, and Jim McElreath and J.P. going up against Hewitt, Lealand,Sills, Ricky Hood,Jeff Swindell and Chuck Gurney.

Stan Fox,Eric Gordon,Steevie Reeves,Elliott,Tray House and Butler.

Even Steve Knepper was there.

That is star power and those are crowd getters.

That is what the Silver Crown Series used to offer. The payout and prestige was such that it brought the best from everywhere to compete.

LEADERSEDGE: 1992 was an ALL STAR FIELD without a doubt, and some of the best open wheelers at that time I agree 100%. But, to take the 1992 race one step further, let me post the drivers that didn't qualify for the 100, and other drivers that were entered - you will be amazed I am sure.

I was there. We missed the show. I believe broke in practice or maybe just to slow. Don't remember. I do remember JP killing the field.

next time you post a list like this please attach a time machine!
my god what a field of drivers. i was just starting to get excited for this year
but hopefully it'll get back to something like that someday.

I remember this race by its brevity. JP ran the fastest 100 miles ever, 59 minutes and some odd seconds. I seem to recall JP running out of fuel while leading back when he was driving a DOHC Ford powered car. Boy, did those things make some noise!

Stroehle- I'll 2nd that one with a time machine. I'd be at the front of line waiting to get in the time machine!

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. There are some names on there that instantly ring a bell for me and that is saying something for a person who is only 31 years old but I remember McElreath, Leland, and the likes. These guys raced and stayed for years helping to build the series into the best. Now drivers spend a few years and then leave for the crap down south. It's sad they leave but money talks. That is what needs to be addressed. There needs to be a way to get and retain drivers in this series if it is to survive, not exist but survive.

48 cars? It's sad to see what we have now for fields. 2 heat races? Hell we couldn't even get a conzi if we had too. Drivers came from everywhere and they were the best of the best. It is so sad.
