Just got in from the fourth race of the Ohio Sprint Week at Waynesfield. 50 cars in attendance and a well prepared track. Due to the number of sprint cars, they only got one lap of qualifying. A couple of traditional sprint car drivers were in action with the All Stars. Brad Sweet transferred out of his heat race directly to the feature by placing second. Darren Clayton wasn't so luck as he failed to transfer and had to run the C-Main. He won that race which put him at the rear of the B-Main. He started 17th in the B and advanced to the 6th spot but they only transferred 4 out of the B to the A-Main.

They reworked the track prior to the C-Main and it held up well for all three sprint races there after. Here are the top ten from the feature race.

Ran into Hoosier Hillbilly and he came down and sat with me. We had a great evening talking racing between the races. I am glad that I went. I had a good time.

1-Stevie Smith

17-Daryn Pittman

11-Brandon Martin

22-Cole Duncan

7k-Rob Chaney

w20-Greg Wilson

11b-Brock Mayes

2-Dale Blaney

41-Jason Johnson

1x-Randy Hannigan

Brad Sweet was running in 8th place with two laps to go and cut down a left rear tire. He was able to change it and return for the last two laps but was at the rear of the field for the restart. He finished someplace around 12th I believe.

If you read the posts on Pitgate.com,I think there is some disagreements on the track being well prepared.I thought it was pretty rough before they graded it.4 or 5 flips in the heats alone. But the grading at 10 o'clock made it a long nite.I stayed till the end and left about 1 am.

dkdorkboy,

I took your advice and read the comments on Pitgate.com. I don't know if you noticed, but 1 poster happened to have almost 50% of the posts on the topic. Not one of them even close to being positive AND HE WASN'T EVEN AT THE TRACK! A number of other posts were equally negative and it seems that many of them have a problem with Guy Webb and the All Stars or Dean Miracle and the track. I love it when people (fans?) stay at home and ***** about track conditions and santioning bodies. Short track racing is hurting right now and more tracks have and will close this year than any year I can remember. That is difficult to figure since I have only been going to the races for slightly over 50 years. I congratulate you on being a real fan and going to the race. I am glad that you didn't stay at home and read all the dribble that the real experts were posting.

When I arrived, I was surprised to see the track with that much moisture in it. Normally winged shows tend to be dry slick and dusty early on. I thought the track held up reasonably well considering the temperature, humidity and 50 sprint cars all hot lapping and qualifying using pretty much the same line. Yes there were a few flips in the heat races but that isn't always the fault of the track condition. I certainly won't speculate what caused all of them. I am only a fan in attendance not a true race expert that sees the action from behind their computer keyboard.

I applaud the track crew for doing something positive and reworking the track when they did. I said in my post that they reworked the track and it held up well for the three sprint races there after. I didn't go to watch the trucks or the stock cars so I left when the sprint A-main was complete.

I personally enjoyed the night of racing. I did happen to do a mapquest on Waynesfield to Ottawa, OH and found that you had approximately a 40 mile drive. I realize the hour was late but you got off easy. I left at 12:30 AM and had a 2 1/2 hour drive to get home. I had to get up today at 6:00 AM for work and yet I certainly don't have anything bad to say about the race. It was Wednesday night, June 24th and not another track in the area was racing. Other than the hour being late, how can that be bad?

Was there last night until the end of the sprint feature also. And from what I saw a good majority of the wrecks were caused by wheel to wheel contact, those guys were being real aggressive early on. 2 of the flips happened at or in the area of the flag stand.

Clayton more than likely would have transferred if not for the Hunter flip, He was mid field when that happened & he spun trying to avoid Hunter. 2 flips in the 1st heat & the 3rd heat, Don't know if the 1 dude just did'nt take off or not but Styres found out pretty quick, & the track was crap @ 1st, If you watched them when they were qualifying you would have seen many a driver's front end shoot straight (in between 3 & 4) for the wall but they gathered her back in & went about buisness. Stevie Smith went below that on his lap & got quick time.
